Hyde ROC post Restoration Page 2

After much grinding of teeth, sulking and talking we've decided to carry on and see if we can figure out a way of draining the surrounding area enough so that we can dry the walls out and make them waterproof, if we can get it dry we can keep it dry!

A lot of ideas floated around a lot of discussion forums. there were tears, excitement, ideas, jokes, putdowns, and pick-me-ups....

A question we were getting asked a lot was....

"why bother"?

I think I should address this,
There were various reasons we chose to do this....

1. It's the closest to our homes, which means it is easier for supplies and to keep an eye on.
2. If we can sort it out then it will be seen by locals who do not have enough interest to go and search out ROC posts, or even people who've never heard of them, but who might be interested because it is in their locality.
3. What is the point of doing easy stuff?? If urbex was easy we wouldn't do it
4.If WE didn't do it, who else would? I think there has been enough posts lost forever already, through demolition and vandalism. This is part of our history and should be preserved if at all possible.

Also..... the pub does very good food and is a nice place - the post would be great for a sleepover..

Update 18th Feb 2009

The main objectives for the afternoon:

*Cover the vent holes to prevent the vent being used as a bin.

*Try to get some air circulating to reduce condensation.

*install and commission the "BigLeggy Bilge Pump"

BigLeggy has made some temp covers for the vent shaft next to the hatch to:

A: stop it being used as a rubbish bin

B: fit an outlet for the "BigLeggy Bilge pump"

The BigLeggy bilge pump - patent pending - is an ingenious affair using a Vauxhall Astra windscreen wiper motor attached to a float, incorporating a micro switch. When the water level rises the pump turns on, until the water level has dropped sufficiently then it turns off again :)

A very short vid - taken by accident - of the pump working :)
